The Beginning

Welcome. Several titles came to mind as I sought to identify my blog. “Food from the Garden” portrays my desire to share information about the association between food and health and to nourish a relationship with God.

From the beginning, God provided fruits of the earth to eat. “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food” (Gen. 1:19).

The last chapter of Revelation emphasizes spiritual fruit from the Trees of Life.  “And he pointed out to me a river of pure Water of Life . . . coursing down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew Trees of Life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month” (Rev. 22:1-2).  We could say that the Bible begins and ends with God’s thoughts of our need for physical and spiritual food.

God provided manna for the Israelites as they wandered for 40 years. We roam about this earth—many of us the full four decades or longer, and some less—but we wander nonetheless. The manna we select every day helps determine our state of health. I often observe poor nutritional advice cloaked as authoritative. People, perhaps sincere, promote and sell nutrition-related products with little to no healthful value. Many peddle religious dogma that may be harmful.

My goal is to help you make wise food choices for optimum well-being and to keep you informed about food issues that may impact your life. My blog will sort facts about nutrition and health from fads and frauds. The focus will center on nutrition with occasional nougats of healthful spiritual tidbits. This blog is for you. Join me and share your thoughts and questions.
